Taiwan allow securities houses to branch into venture capital business
11/2-Taiwan`s government decided to ease the operations of securities houses, allowing them to expand their business to include venture capital operations. A securities firm will be permitted to invest up to 5% of its net worth into venture capital business.
The financial and economic task force of the Executive Yuan predicted that some NT$18 billion new capital will be channeled into the venture capital industry following the liberalization. In a response to the government`s latest move, several leading securities houses, including Yuanta Core Pacific Securities, Jih-Sun Securities and National Securities, have all expressed willingness to branch into venture capital business in the near future.
